Jordan White: The poll

Post by Lexi Collector on Wed Mar 25, 2015 3:06 pm

Been chatting to a couple of my crew, most of them haven't been to a game in months, but most of us agree that we sympathise with Jordan White. Reasons why I want Jordan White to stay with us next season:

He's our top scorer (and one of the leagues top scorers), and despite this being an incredibly awful season and him having numerous howlers, he deserves respect
He's proven he can score barrel loads of goals in the seaside leagues. Why ditch him when it'll be difficult to find a player with as good a track record?
He's been managed by a bunch of clowns and the tactics used are a million miles off his (or any other decent number 9s game)
He shows signs of a good touch, movement and awareness
He has a good attitude and seems like a nice fella. The kind of player you'd want playing for your club.

Reasons not to keep him:

He's had a few howlers in the Championship (mainly due to having his confidence knocked due to playing in a system which is utter fuck)

Thoughts?

Not sure my options there but if we end up going into the first then we should probably keep hold of him if we can. He had a reasonable tally for Stirling didn't he; seem to recall that it was up in the twenties.

Never faulted his effort or conviction; just his concentration and first touch.

In some ways I would criticise the way he's been played; shouldn't keep being pulled back for every corner (even allowing for his height); he certainly doesn't suit the loan-striker role - needs a good speedy partner playing as another forward (not a pseudo winger) and reviewing his positioning at corners and set pieces.

In reality if we end up in the first he may also need to consider going part time.

Scored 20 odd goals for Stirling Albion in League2 (I think) last season, and has scored 9 in the Championship so would undoubtedly score in League 1.

He signed a 2 year deal not a one year.

It says on his wiki page he has signed a two year deal.

Hopefully will be here for another season in the Championship Lexi as I think we will stay up.

Did he sign a 2? I thought it was just a 1, but I'm pleased to hear that. He'll be a better player in League 1, can kick-start his career with us. I'm a fan of the boy.

Can't make my mind up; his prowess in the air is lacking for such a big lad but he isn't too bad with the ball at his feet. It would be interesting to see the team play to his strengths as they seemed to do when we beat Alloa 4-0

Think he would score a lot next season if we do make the drop to League 1, plus I doubt we'd find a better player to suit the circumstances.

If, by some miracle, we stay in the Championship, I'd keep him as a substitute at the most. But even at that, I doubt we'd find someone better given our financial status coupled with our inept management.

Would be daft to get rid of him either way given the amount of goals he's scored this season in a pish team, boy deserves respect for that.

Jordan White is the one player who sums up our season: Early season promise followed by plain shite with the occasional decent performance here and there.

On his day, he can be a threat as he's not too bad with the ball at his feet. He's got a bit of pace about of him despite his height and he's more than willing to clock up the miles if it means chasing every ball in attack or even to get back and defend. The guy needs a partner up front though rather than looking like a spare prick because when he's been partnered with Sekajja or Mullen, he always gets them involved in the attack so he's very much a team player.

However, for a striker who does have a bit of experience dealing with defenders who want to break ankles before winning a tackle in the seaside leagues, he does look lost when he comes up against an organised defence. And despite his height and creditable first touch, I've never seen him win a header that hasn't came from a set piece.

If there was any sort of tactical set up from McGlynn or Burchill then we would've seen a striker with at least 15 goals by now as he has shown more than glimpses of what he's capable of so I would keep him when the enevitable happens and we get relegated. No danger though, he'll get picked up by a team like Raith or QoS at the start of next season and he'll end up top scorer, Ballon d'or winner and First Minister.

Agree with the majority here, I actually think he may keep us up tho if Burchy plays him the full 90 for most of our games, he got Stirling up last season and came good in the playoffs when it mattered scoring hattricks and in their cup final.

The problem is the guy 's playing with too many nicompoops and with limited service and with in a team with horrible tactics as most people have pointed out. I've seen a few howlers from every top striker this season in various leagues and competitions including messers Ronaldo & Messi so that's part and parcel of the game.

He's a must start for me against Alloa giving his record against them - did a bit of research, his record against them is 5 goals in 6 games is his career.

I think the feed the Hippo chant is a lot of mince even thou I like Hippo, all season we haven't really fed the Big Fella so with the goal in sight gee it tae White, cause like our wins and his goal scoring this season (sporadic) he's capable of another hattrick or double and we are maybe capable of another away win, seem to play better away at times and White is easily capable of scoring against this mob tomorrow when it matters the most.

I wonder how many goals Hippo would've scored had he had as many games and played the amount of hours and minutes Jordan has. Would be interesting if he even got a run of 5 consecutive games. Can't really fairly judge him with the odd sub appearance and a couple of starts he's had, would've liked to have seen him get a few games in a row just to see if he could step up to the plate. Even Mullen got a fair shout after having some really bad games and improved for a wee spell where he scored some goals.

Can't fault Jordan's work ethic though, never stops running after balls even though he seems to have just the one gear. Bit like Dycey in that respect, no burst of pace but gets up to a gallop once he gets into his stride. Can pick out a pass too but unfortunately he's been mostly up there himself so his talent isn't being fully utilised

Agree with this Liviforever however in regards to Hippo he's been given the opportunities and somehow hasn't delivered from the start or even scored a league goal, granted he's been playing on the wing at times but your right there is no comparison.

Yeah the Hippo hasn't delivered in the games he got a start, still would've liked to have seen him get a few games in a row though, just to see once and for all if he could cut it. If not then give someone else a chance. I read on P&B we've a young striker that looks decent playing in the development games but he's being overlooked as Boulding has now been signed.

Take my hat off to White, Hippo and Mullen, all 3 have been outstanding this month.

I've been as critical of Mullen as I have of White, he does my head in when he gets easily pushed off the ball and sits on his arse moaning about it, but he's really pulled his sleeves up this wee while. Still gets knocked off the ball at times but has shown signs he's wising up to it. Prob been a season too early for his development getting all this pressure on him to score goals but he's starting to look a good prospect next season and could make us a few bob being sold the next again season.

Hippo has been a revelation since the cup final, he's making it happen for us in our attack and has been behind a few of our goals, combining great with Mullen and White. He's even got better tackling to help out in defence, he won a few tackles against Cowden yesterday and don't think he tripped anyone.

White has shown strength and bottle getting 4 goals and forcing in the equaliser in our 2-2 draw with Alloa before the cup final, can't fault his commitment but I've been pissed off with his finishing, made me eat my words these last 4 games. My biggest grump was his incosinstency scoring goals, that's 4 and a half he's got in 4 games, much better from him.

I think all 3 have found a bit of from at the same time and it has been fantastic seeing them and the rest of the team winning games. A bit scared to get my hopes up as we've 2 very tought games now, lets keep it going lads.

Big Shite has been woeful for most of the season. McGlynn played hoofball with him as the target and it didn't work. He went for a long period missing open goals with headers or shot.

Funny thing is that he seems to have turned a corner, I think the system and management from Burchill seems to be getting him playing into form again and we need him to be in form and scoring if we want to survive.

Another couple for the big man the day, almost notched a perfect hat-trick. Apparently fans at QOS on his back last week and a couple of mongoloids over on P&B throughout the week saying he has no heart and dedication.

Fuckin ram it ya bastards, big shags 'til I die. Top bloke.

Four league starts four goals, but hey I've been saying that he is a must play player for us for ages.
Don't know what he has to do to convince some people.
He has scored 21 goals for us since he joined and assisted in a good few too.

As someone says on pie and bovril did a lot of dirty work today

Yep he was impressive today, first goal was a poor floaty ball in which was 80% in favour of the Raith keeper getting it but White got up there alongside him and forced it into the net with the pressure he puts on keepers.

He's done that many times before and usually 50/50 whether the ref gives a foul or not depending on how much protection they give the keeper. Usually keepers get far too much weight put in their favour from refs so great to see White getting a fair crack at it from the ref.

He put in 2 fantastic passes to Buchanan in the first half, worked one two's with Glen, gets in on the end of high balls up the pitch, only thing that I'd like to see him do is get more direct to put pressure on defenders as he tends to curve a run up to them rather than go straight at them but hey, nobody is perfect.

He frustrated me last season being sporadic with his goal scoring but I think that was mainly down to him having to play up front by himself and balls constantly being hit over his head for him to chase, not his game really. Go 2 up front and the big fella thrives.

The fact it was a high floaty one caused Cuthbert all sorts of problems, I initially thought poor cross, keepers ball but it began to hang in the air and the sun would have been in Cuthberts eyes. White saw that the ball was taking ages to come down and pressured the keeper who panicked and tried to get sympathy from the ref who made the right but unusual call of letting White's challenge go unpunished.

So the cross became a good one in the end.

Lol ok Bertie.

Those floaty balls towards the keeper are the kind we've been guilty of doing too many times this season, really bugs me.

Cuthbert was dodgy all game whenever a player challenged him for a ball, fumbled one near the end  too when Hippo was harassing him. Fair play to White though, he does put keepers under a lot of pressure in situations like that, bloody goal against Sevco that Hippo scored should've stood too but the ref gave a foul against White when the keeper fumbled it.

Don't get me wrong I don't like that type of cross either but on this occasion it worked a treat, credit to White for his desire, presence and anticipation
