Not if you read Martindale’s comments. Idea is to give Crane time. He is predominantly left sided and predominantly a left back; but he can play left mid & DM believes he could adapt to left of centre in a mid4 or mid5.

Which sounds more like a direct replacement for Jacko & possibly longer term for Pittman if he moves on to a bigger club next year.

Or he's a replacement for Longridge and with us signing Saunders and Lamie it may indicate Halkett wont be signing back up.

I was thinking Lamie could be used as a LB or LWB but Crane's natural position is LB and can play further up on the wing if needed, so possibly Lamie is more going to be used as a left sided CB in our back 3, with Dec, Lithgow and Saunders also vying for places and McMillan and Crane we're pretty well covered defensively. I read Halkett is holding back till he sees who the manager will be, but doesn't look like we're hanging about waiting for him to make up his mind, hopefully he decides to stay though.

Actually with three players signed now, all of whom an play central defence I'm more concerned about Craig Halkett.

Its starting to sound more likely that he could be on his way.

Crane's been rumoured to have been coming here since around February/March time on a PCA, so doesn't really affect the Halkett situation in my eyes. I'm assuming Saunders will be the cover at CB/RB along with McMillan (maybe?), and Lamie has essentially replaced Buchanan? Relatively happy with our business so far tbh, not having a manager is a hindrance but by all accounts these are solid signings with an eye on the medium-term, we can't afford to hold off for a new manager to come in so I'm glad we're padding the squad out a bit.

You get the feeling that the next signing has to be a big one, been decent enough so far but nothing major since Byrne.

Come on then; where's today's news?

Surely there's a host of out-of-contract big names that want to get signed up before heading off to the world cup finals?

If we can get Alexander, Halkett & Cadden signed up on new deals, plus a couple of strikers (Hardie & Quitongo)? I'd be delighted!

Just think, the League opener could be Livi v Celtic with Miller & Mackin up front, Livi win 3-2 and a Dylan Mackin hattrick. cheers

If we could only sign one of the out of contract players, for me it would have to be Alexander. He is key.

If it happens i'm going to be kicking myself for not putting money on it. lol!

With those two up front though all our goals would have to come from set pieces cause neither of them can run worth a feck. Just hoping we get someone with pace to partner Miller.

Yeah as much as I want Halkett to sign I think Alexander would be a bigger loss. His organisation of the defenders in front of him and being so comfortable at dealing with pass backs is huge, also makes very few mistakes and hardly ever spills the ball.

Not sure personally; Halkett would be a huge loss; not only from his defensive abilities but also his role as captain in a true leader of men model... not forgetting the number of goals he chipped in with as well.

Not sure what the hold up is with Alexander, he came to us because he wanted to play and as far as I can see nothing has changed, he still wants at least another season playing in goals. He wont get that anywhere else at this level.

Rumoured that Partick and Dundee Utd have made offers to Halkett, and Partick are looking favourites to get him, until it happens i'm still holding out hope for him signing with us, and hopefully he doesn't do anything till we get a manager and that persuades him to stay.

Would be amazed if Halkett went to a championship side; easily good enough for the Premiership and surely one of them would be able to offer more on monetary terms.

That being said sitting around waiting to find out who the new manager is could be causing quite a degree of uncertainty after having such a good relationship with Hopkins.

I've read somewhere that Hardie is under contract at Rangers until the end of June...perhaps why we haven't heard anything yet. Also heard that Plymouth are interested though which could tempt him.

Just seen that Jordan Thompson has signed a two year deal (plus option for a further year's extension) with Blackpool FC.

A shame really but I suppose Blackpool are able ot pay significantly more than us and these guys cant wait around forever for the phone to ring.

At least he’s gone to a club where he can’t hurt us (he’s still listed in the squad BTW)

I can’t believe Halkett would drop back to Championship level, so I hope those rumours are just wind ups.

As a matter of interest does anyone know how Hardie got on with his operation?

Hardie signed up for another season at Sevco, wonder if there's any chance of another loan deal with us.

I suspect this is because the believe they can get some money for him; even though he played well for us I'm not sure he'll get a chance at the rangers.

Rumours floating about that its us or Dundee he's likely to end up at.
